17th year finals nights...

Decisions have been taken regarding the League's two finals nights for the 2007-08 season.

The main finals night will take place as advertised, on Monday 2 June 2008 and will take place at the Rock Inn, Rock Hill, Glasshoughton, Castleford.  Although this is not currently a member of the Five Towns Quiz League, there are two good reasons why we decided to go there.  Firstly the Golden Lion Gems will be moving to the Rock Inn for their home venue from next season (thus ending a very long link for the FTQL with the Golden Lion at Ferrybridge), so we think that this night will act as a very good intro in for the venue, especially to the Second Division teams, who will be playing there next season, and secondly they have a very good upstairs function room, which the Committee has visited and it seems extremely well suited to our finals night.

Events will start as usual with the Plate Knockout Final between first time finalists Gaping Goose and Railwaymen at around 7.45pm and continue with the John Smith's Knockout Cup Final between more first time finalists Olde Church Taverners and Wanderers, hopefully at around 9.15pm.

Refreshments will be provided and the evening will conclude with the traditional presentation of the season's trophies.

Just one thing...parking at the Rock Inn ain't great, so either get there early, or alternatively our Thursday night quiz at the George V WMC advises us that parking over the road in their car park is ok.

Ok, secondly, the Handicap Cup Final and world famous Andrew Lyman's Pairs Competition will take place at the Horse & Jockey, Church Road, Altofts on Monday 19 May 2008.

The Horse & Jockey is, as Division One teams will know, home of the Wanderers and is also the only John Smith's house in the league, which was a factor in the decision.  They have a back room which is about the same size as the room we held this evening last year at Featherstone Bowling Club, maybe slightly smaller.  However, there is a very fancy veranda area out of the back doors of the room, where we are hoping for a balmy late May evening so that we can have them open and things will be wonderful.  Well we can hope anyway...
